“There is always a cost of war. And, when the war ends, we must be willing to show the millions of veterans that we have their back, that the United States Government has their back.” —Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Jon Tester, June 16, 2022
In the case of exposure to toxic substances at Camp Lejeune, the U.S. Government did not live up to that promise. But, today, June 16, 2022, with a vote of 84 to 16, the historic Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our PACT Act of 2022 (“PACT Act") passed the Senate and is expected to be signed by President Biden within the next few weeks.
The PACT Act is unlike any other “mass tort” that has come before, both in size and process. Lawyers who want to be involved in this historic litigation need to understand that there is no “static criteria” to teach a call center or place as a multiple-choice option on a form for digital client acquisition.
Before you call a marketing firm/advertising agency, make sure you understand the goal of the intake data collected.
The historic PACT Act set up a framework for the establishment of future presumptions of service-connected diseases, it did not create a “criteria” for compensation. The hard work of collecting, researching, and connecting diseases to the Camp Lejeune contamination starts today.
To make this analysis efficient, SimplyConvert has teamed up with the Bell Legal Group to maintain two categories of diseases in our proprietary database – those diseases that are already presumed to be service-connected and a list of over 700 tracked illnesses currently under consideration for inclusion as a service-connected disease.
Very importantly, our proprietary presumptive disease database utilizes automation and structured data. Speaking on this historic legislation, both Senator Tester and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough, noted that automation will be required to improve the legal claims process for those affected by the contamination.
SimplyConvert is honored to be the automated intake platform of choice and the proprietary presumptive disease database of the Bell Legal Group.
About the Litigation
Camp Lejeune is a United States Marine Corps base located in North Carolina. Established in 1941, it has served as a training ground for Marines preparing for deployments all over the world. For three decades, between 1953 and 1987, the Camp Lejeune water supply was contaminated with a frightening mix of toxic substances: four core chemicals — trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), vinyl chloride (VC) and Benzene, and 70 secondary chemicals. These chemicals resulted in exposures up to 280 times over the recommended safety limits.
Over one million Marines, Marine family members, and civilian workers at Camp Lejeune were exposed to toxic water. The contaminated water caused bladder cancer, breast cancer, NHL, Parkinson’s disease, as well as many other diseases (view the case criteria here). The PACT Act allows historic relief to all generations of toxic-exposed veterans and those that lived and worked at Camp Lejeune, allowing them to exercise their constitutional right to legal action.
SimplyConvert is making it easy for firms to assist veterans, family members, and civilian workers who were exposed to contaminated water while stationed or working at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between 1953 and 1987.
Using our automated intake platform, potential clients are screened and immediately qualified for representation under the Camp Lejeune intake criteria. SimplyConvert signs those qualified instantly, retrieves medical authorizations, and can also complete all forms necessary to file in the North Carolina courts.
While you are welcome to be an active member of the Camp Lejeune litigation, SimplyConvert has also made referrals to Bell Legal Group easy. You can instantly refer signed clients directly to Ed through the SimplyConvert platform.
